Tellart/Biomuseo Collaboration

I was honored to join the team at Tellart on a project to revamp the “Living Web” exhibit at Biomuseo, a science museum dedicated to educating the public on biodiversity. My role was to create 38 watercolor paintings to be scanned and utilized in interactive touch screen displays.

Each painting was created by synthesizing the appropriate colors and form of each species from a series of reference images, creating preliminary and final sketches, painting, and scanning the finals. The positioning of each illustration depended on that species’ location in the master diagram, noting that the orientation would change when a viewer selects a relationship from the menu: herbivory, predation, mutualism, commensalism, or parasitism.

The result is on permanent display at Biomuseo in Panama City, Panama.

Locust Borer

This colored pencil drawing was created from a specimen under a microscope for an entomological illustration class at the Rhode Island School of Design. The specimen was damaged, so the initial step was to create realistic legs and antennas. The project took approximately 18 hours.
